Arrows Puzzle: How to Play, Full Rules, and Beginner Tips

You have probably seen Arrows – Puzzle Escape near the top of the Play Store charts: a clean white board, arrows sitting on a twisting path, and three hearts watching you from the top of the screen. Below are the real rules, a visual demo of the one move that matters, six strategies, and straight answers to the questions players ask most.

What Is the Arrows Puzzle?

Arrows – Puzzle Escape is a minimalist logic game by Lessmore GmbH for Android and iOS, with more than 100 million downloads and a 4.7-star rating on Google Play. Arrows sit on a grid path, and you tap one to slide it out of the board in the direction it points. The goal is to extract every arrow without a collision. It is a game of reading paths and empty space, not of speed: there is no timer.

How the Arrows Puzzle Works

  1. Tap an arrow and it slides out of the board. The arrow moves in the direction it points, along the path, until it leaves the grid.
  2. Collisions cost hearts. If another arrow stands in the slide path, the two arrows collide: you lose 1 of your 3 hearts. (In the demo: the green arrow has a clear path to the edge; the red ✕ arrow is blocked.)
  3. Double-headed arrows have two exits. Tap them and you can choose which of the two directions they slide out, usually the safer one.
  4. Clear the grid without losing a single heart. That is the goal of every level. Hints exist for stuck moments; the timer does not.
The whole game in one sentence: never tap an arrow whose slide path still has an arrow on it. Find arrows with empty paths and pull them out first.

6 Arrows Puzzle Strategies

1Slide the arrows whose path is already empty first. Scan every arrow before touching anything; each arrow that can leave without hitting anything is a guaranteed safe move: bank it immediately.
2Clear from the outside in. Arrows near the edge have short slide paths and few possible blockers. Peel the rim first and the interior becomes far less tangled.
3Count the blockers. If an arrow is blocked by exactly one other arrow, that blocker is your next target: slide it out first and the arrow behind it becomes a free tap.
4Favor arrows pointing at an empty edge. When an arrow faces a straight, clear run to the board edge, it is guaranteed to escape. Take it before the layout shifts.
5Treat double-headed arrows as escape doors. When a double arrow is the only thing trapping a neighbor, try both of its exits and pick the direction that frees the most arrows with the least risk.
6Manage hearts, not speed. There is no timer, so uncertainty is never an emergency. A collision costs a heart; re-planning costs a second. Think before you tap.

Notice what both boards share: arrows packed along a single winding path, three hearts at the top, and no countdown clock. Every level is a variation on that shape (longer paths, more arrows, tighter corners), and the same extraction logic applies throughout.

How do hearts work in Arrows Puzzle Escape?
